VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) is a new class of electric and hybrid vertical-lift aircraft, eVTOL. Its niche is urban air mobility: transfers of 20–250 km, airport-to-city-centre in 10–20 minutes, links between resorts and business clusters. The class's key promises: far lower noise than a helicopter, zero local emissions and an hourly cost closer to a premium taxi than to classic helicopter flying. Production and pre-production eVTOLs are designed for 1–6 passengers and 40–250 km: the Joby S4 — a pilot and four seats, ~160 km; the Archer Midnight — four passengers, ~80 km with reserves; China's EHang EH216-S (the first certified autonomous one) — two seats, ~30 km. Electric motors versus a turbine: noise is 20–30 dB lower (allowing more frequent, lower urban flight), the flight-hour cost by operators' estimates is 3–5 times less, and maintenance is simpler thanks to minimal mechanics. Today's limits are the batteries: 100–250 km of range versus 600–1,000 for a helicopter, weather sensitivity and passenger certification only just beginning. Commercial operations have begun in places: EHang runs sightseeing flights in China, and Joby and Archer are launching air taxis in the UAE and the US in 2026. Operators' projected fares are $3–6 per passenger-kilometre at launch, falling toward $1–2 as they scale: a 30 km transfer would come to $100–200 per person — comparable to a premium taxi with a 40–60-minute saving. The standard is 24–48 hours before departure: that is enough to confirm the aircraft, crew and slots. For regular clients we arrange a domestic flight from 4–6 hours. International routes need 48–72 hours: overflight permits for some countries take 3–5 working days. On peak dates — Christmas, summer holidays, major forums — aircraft are booked out 2–3 weeks ahead, so plan early.

An empty leg is the ferry of an empty aircraft to its next job or home to base. Such segments sell at a 30–75% discount to the usual price: a flight that would cost $25K can come to $8–12K. The limits: the date and route are fixed to the aircraft's schedule, and if the main booking is cancelled the flight may shift. We publish current empty legs weekly — watch the listings.

Baggage is limited only by hold volume: a light jet takes 5–8 suitcases, while midsize and above fit skis, gun cases and golf bags — clear oversized cargo in advance. Pets travel in the cabin in a carrier or crate; a pet passport, microchip and documents for the destination country are required. Children fly from birth to 2 years with no surcharge.

Alcohol is allowed in the cabin and is included in catering on request. Smoking follows the rules of the specific aircraft and operator (not permitted on most VIP cabins, with some exceptions). Business meetings, presentations and celebrations in the cabin are possible on midsize aircraft and above. In non-flying weather or an airport closure the operator offers a rescheduled departure, a change of alternate airfield or a substitute aircraft — safety always takes priority and the captain decides. If the operator cancels through its own fault, the fee is refunded. We stay in contact with the operator and quickly rebuild the flight.
