Frequently asked questions
What is an empty leg?
It is a flight the aircraft performs without passengers anyway: returning to base after a charter or repositioning for the next booking. These segments sell at a 30–75% discount off the regular price, so a flight that would normally cost $25,000 can go for $8,000–12,000.
Why are empty legs cheaper?
Because the aircraft is already scheduled to fly and the operator bears the costs whether or not there are passengers on board. Selling the seats at a reduced price beats flying the jet empty — that is where the discount comes from.
What are the limitations of empty legs?
The date, time and route are fixed and will not adjust to you — that is the price of the discount. Also, if the original booking that created the leg changes or gets cancelled, the flight may shift or fall through. So an empty leg is a poor fit for trips with hard deadlines.
How do I catch the right empty leg?
Current offers are published on this page and updated regularly. If your route is not listed right now, send us your dates and destination — we will let you know as soon as a matching segment appears. Write to us and we will prepare an offer, quote the price and review the options for your trip.
Can the date or time of an empty leg be moved?
No. The route and departure window are set by the main flight the aircraft is repositioning for; a shift of a couple of hours is the most an operator can offer.
Can a confirmed empty leg be cancelled?
Yes, and that is the key difference from a normal charter: if the main flight moves, the repositioning disappears. Roughly one in seven to ten such flights is cancelled, so always keep a fallback.
How long is there to decide?
Usually a day or two: suitable legs are taken quickly, and they appear as main flights are sold rather than on any schedule.
How much cheaper is an empty leg?
Typically a quarter to three quarters off the full charter price, depending on how closely your route matches the repositioning and how urgently the operator needs to fill it.
Are empty legs common?
About 40% of private flights are flown without passengers, but a match on both city pair and date is rare. Alerts work better than a one-off search.
Can I bring oversized baggage or a pet?
The rules are the same as for a normal charter on that aircraft type, but nobody will change the route for loading: if the hold is too small, you wait for another leg.
