Why does the Falcon have three engines and what does it give in practice?
The tri-jet layout of the 900LX and 8X is Dassault's signature. Falcons age gracefully: an eight-year-old 2000LXS sells for $18–22M (new $37M), a 900LX of the same age $23–28M. Classic 2000s 900EX at $12–16M are considered the best price for a tri-jet intercontinental jet. The discount to a same-size Gulfstream reflects a smaller fleet, but Falcon supply on the market is also notably shorter. How does the Falcon differ from Gulfstream?
Gulfstream leads on speed and range: the G650ER flies M0.90 over 13,890 km, while the Falcon 8X does M0.85 over 11,945 km. The Falcon answers with economy (15–20% less burn), short-field operation and digital control honed on fighters. The 6X/10X cabins are wider than Gulfstream equivalents. What range and how many passengers do large jets have?
The Challenger 650 takes up to 12 passengers over 7,400 km; the Falcon 2000LXS 8–10 seats over 7,410 km with short-field clearance thanks to its wing high-lift devices. Cruise speed is 850–870 km/h. A cabin 2.41–2.49 m wide and 1.83–1.88 m high allows free movement; 3.2–3.7 m³ holds are accessible in flight. How does a large jet differ from neighbouring classes?
The super-midsize yields to the large jet in cabin width (2.08–2.19 m versus 2.41+) and 'presence' — at head-of-state and corporate level that matters. New aircraft or pre-owned — which is the better buy?
A new aircraft means a factory warranty and a 1–3-year queue, but the price is at its peak. A pre-owned aircraft means immediate delivery and a price 30–60% lower, while engine time and history matter.
