Nextant has come up with the idea of remanufacturing business jets: the company takes a Beechjet 400A/XP airframe, installs new Williams FJ44-3AP engines, Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics, and a new cabin—and delivers a virtually new 400XTi light jet with a warranty. Range has increased to 3,700 km (+50% compared to the original Beechjet), fuel consumption has dropped by a third, and the price is half that of a new, similar-class jet.

On the used market, the 400XTi is offered for $2.2 million to $3 million—the price of a good turboprop with a jet speed of 830 km/h. Direct costs are approximately $800 to $2,000 per hour, and the FJ44 engines are covered by the TAP Blue program. By comparison, a new light jet with the same range costs $9 million to $12 million. This is one of the best price-to-speed offers in the light jet class.

The 400XTi is based on the Beechjet/Hawker 400, an airframe designed for the military T-1 Jayhawk program (the US Air Force has flown it for millions of hours). The engines and avionics are serial components from Williams and Collins with global support. The remanufacturing itself is FAA certified. A weakness is the small fleet (approximately 70 aircraft), so specific airframe parts take longer to find than for the Citation.

Nextant Aerospace is an American company based in Cleveland, Ohio, founded in 2007. A pioneer in business jet remanufacturing, it uses the Beechjet/Hawker 400 airframe to create a virtually new aircraft, the 400XTi. Approximately 80 aircraft have been produced under this program.

The Williams FJ44 engines and Rockwell Collins avionics are serial components with global support (Williams TAP program). The Beechjet/Hawker 400 airframe is supported by the Textron network. Due to the small fleet, specific remanufacturing parts take longer to find than for the mass-produced Citation.

Remanufacturing is covered by Nextant's factory warranty, and the process itself is FAA certified. The new Williams engines are covered by the TAP Blue program, and the Collins avionics are covered by separate packages. Essentially, the buyer receives a warranty equal to that of a new aircraft.

Remanufacturing takes approximately 6-9 months from the time the donor airframe is delivered. Complete 400XTi aircraft are available immediately on the secondary market—this is the fastest way to obtain an aircraft.
