Textron continues to modernize the Super Medium Jet, which was discontinued in 2013. The FANS 1/A+ and PM-CPDLC systems will allow pilots to simplify communications and utilize the latest data services offered in North America and Europe, according to a release from the manufacturer.
Textron Aviation noted several benefits of the upgrade, including the ability to quickly and accurately upload complex instructions to the flight management system at the touch of a button. The FANS 1/A+ and PM-CPDLC systems will also support advanced data transfer capabilities, trajectory-based operations, improved en-route changes in severe weather and airport traffic, and priority departure authorization. Textron compared PM-CPDLC to SMS text messaging used on a cell phone but using prescribed messages to request and receive clearances.
“The new Hawker 4000 business jet cockpit technology upgrade reduces pilot workload and increases efficiency,” said Brian Roloff, senior vice president of customer experience at Textron Aviation. “Our team is committed to supporting customers throughout their entire life cycle, and we've made this capability available through our global service network based on their feedback.”
Textron Aviation can perform upgrades at certain company-owned service centers in the United States.
